Boosters start looking at summer events
April 17, 2017

Montezuma Community Boosters members took a look back at what they called a successful Montezuma Area Business Expo during their monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 12, in city hall.

They also looked forward at some coming events.

One of those is Monte Pride Day, a city-wide cleanup done by the school, on April 28.

It was also noted that Montezuma's city-sponsored cleanup will be on May 8 and that residents need to prepay at city hall.

"Let Freedom Ring," the community's July 4th observance that the Boosters help to coordinate, was discussed. Members talked about a grand marshal for the parade. A selection was made, but will not be announced until acceptance has been confirmed.

It was also noted that 2018 will be Montezuma's 150th anniversary as a community. Boosters indicated they would participate in an event, but thought it was beyond their scope to be the organizer.

Whitney Baethke of Montezuma Community Development said she will put together an organizational meeting and will get the matter before the city council.

Members discussed the possibility of making a third annual bus trip to an Iowa Cubs game this summer. Members indicated a preference for going on a night when fireworks are held after the game. Some preference also was expressed for a date when the Cubs play the Memphis Redbirds, but realize the schedule may not accommodate that.
