The ball is passed forward at the Upward! basketball league.

Everyone plays and matters at Upward!
Jan. . 10, 2010

You start . . . somewhere. It's how you learn.

More than 100 students in grades K-6 began play Saturday at Upward!, a new Christian-based basketball program being held through early March at the Presbyterian Family Center.

Youth director P.J. Mahaffey talked to the students and family members, then it was on to action.

Players can help their teams by remembering Bible verses.

But they're also taught some basic skills of the game by caring adults. Everybody gets to play. And everyone is encouraged to have fun.

Players discuss strategy with coach Donna Ray.
